About Us

Richmond hyperbaric oxygen treatment team
International Hyperbaric Health Centers Inc. (IHHC) has a team of professionals and certified technicians who are committed to serving clients with different health conditions. Its mission is to serve the people of the community and promote the health and wellbeing of all clients through the power of oxygen.

Hyperbaric chambers are medical devices and only hard-shelled chambers that meet safety code are cleared for use by Health Canada. IHHC has three multi-place cylindrical steel chambers meaning several clients will receive treatments at the same time in the chamber.

The Center operates under the direction of a knowledgeable team and is one of the longest serving hyperbaric oxygen therapy providers in the Greater Vancouver area. The Center keeps its hyperbaric chambers of different sizes and capacities in excellent condition to ensure the highest level of safety. Our clients have been successfully treated for many conditions including long covid, hearing loss, diabetic wounds, and post radiation.

Why International Health Centers (IHHC)?

We provide a Safe Environment, Reasonable and Cost Effective Therapy, Promising Track Record, and Free Consultation.

International Hyperbaric Health Center in Richmond BC is equipped with three ASME/PVHO certified HARD-SHELLED multi-place chambers with operating permits. The large multi-place chamber accommodates 6 people and is quite similar to the one at Vancouver General Hospital. For safety reasons, we DO NOT use soft chambers that Health Canada does not approve. The Center has a team of professionals and certified technicians who are committed to serving clients with attention and care. We provide free consultations and price our treatments at the most reasonable level so more people can enjoy the benefits of HBOT. Our many success stories are our track record.

When undergoing a treatment session in a multi-place chamber, the client wears a transparent hood delivering 100% oxygen. There are 2 technicians manning the chamber controls from the outside when operating the chamber; and an attendant accompanying the client inside the chamber.

Some clients prefer the multi-place chambers which have vastly more space inside where they can stand and stretch; this gives a much less claustrophobic feeling compared to a mono chamber. There is an extra degree of safety with a multi-place chamber in contrast to a mono- chamber. In a mono-chamber, the entire environment is flooded with 100% oxygen, and in the inadvertent chance a client brings in a flammable object, the result is more likely to be catastrophic. In a multi-place chamber, the client wears a transparent hood meaning the only area with 100% oxygen is contained around the client’s head, thus, a safer environment.

IHHC is conveniently located in the Ironwood area in Southeast Richmond BC, easily accessible from the Lower Mainland as well as other parts of Canada & the USA via Vancouver International Airport (YVR).

Frequently Asked Questions

At the beginning of each treatment, the client will feel the change in pressure in the ears (similar to the feeling while one is in an airplane). To equalize the pressure in the ears, the attendant will provide instructions. It is only necessary to do this during the first few minutes of the treatment. During the treatment, the client may sleep, read books/magazines, or just relax. Patients of all ages generally tolerate the treatments very well.

Near the end of your HBOT treatment, our technician will gradually decrease the chamber pressure. This is the decompression phase, which usually lasts for about 15 minutes. During decompression, patients will experience a “popping” sensation in their ears as a result of the decreasing pressure. This may be similar to what is felt in an airplane.

After a hyperbaric oxygen treatment, some clients may notice sensations of tiredness or hunger.

Our rates start at $150+GST per hour per person for hyperbaric oxygen treatments, and $75+GST per hour per person for normobaric oxygen treatments. Discounts are available for treatment packages.

See our Rates section for more details.

Yes, you can sleep in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. Many patients find it comfortable enough to sleep during treatment, and some even consider it a restorative sleep aid. The inside of the chamber is designed to be comfortable and spacious, allowing users to lie down, sit, or recline. Some often report feeling rejuvenated and energized after sleeping or napping in the hyperbaric chamber.

Safety precautions are taken to ensure your safety at all times while inside the hyperbaric chamber. 100 % cotton clothing and footwear must be worn during the treatment.

For safety reasons, please do not wear

  • Lipstick, make-up, nail polish

  • Vaseline based products

  • Oil based products

  • Hair spray

  • Colognes and perfumes

  • Remove any unnecessary prosthetic devices

  • Wigs, watches, jewellery, contact lenses, and hearing aids.

The following are PROHIBITED from entering the hyperbaric chamber:

  • Electronic devices, car key remotes

  • Batteries

  • Watches

  • Hearing Ads

  • Ball pens (pencil is fine)

  • Cigarettes, matches, lighters and smoking materials

  • Newsprint (Reading material such as books or magazines are allowed)

  • Foods, candies, or juice

Smoking constricts the blood vessels, we ask you to refrain from smoking while taking the treatments, refrain from caffeine and carbonated drinks for 12 hours prior to each treatment.

Some medications are not compatible with hyperbaric oxygen therapy such as Adriamycin, Bleomycin, and Sulfamylon. We will need to know all medications you are currently taking. Chemotherapy agents, seizure medications, steroids, and diabetic medications are of particular importance. Please be sure to inform us of all such medications that you are taking now and have them clearly indicated on your medical history form.

Please DO NOT hesitate to talk to our technicians or attendants if you have any concern. If you wish to take anything into the chamber with you, ALWAYS check with our staff prior to entering the chamber.

It is not advisable for clients to receive HBOT under the following conditions:

  • pregnancy
  • asthma attack or severe lung conditions
  • cold or fever
  • recent ear surgery or injury
  • 24 hours before or after flying

No, hyperbaric oxygen treatment is not painful. You may feel pressure in your ears similar to the sensation during takeoff and landing on an airplane. Clearing your ears by yawning or swallowing can help alleviate this discomfort.

Yes, when administered by trained professionals, HBOT is generally considered safe; however, it's important to inform your medical doctor or our attendant about any medical conditions, medications, or concerns you have before undergoing treatment. Side effects are rare and may include ear discomfort, sinus congestion, or temporary changes in vision.

HBOT is used to treat a range of medical conditions, including non-healing wounds, diabetic ulcers, carbon monoxide poisoning, radiation injuries, decompression sickness ("the bends"), and certain types of infections. It's often part of a comprehensive treatment plan. See our "Conditions" page for a more comprehensive list and details of medical conditions that hyperbaric oxygen treatments are effective in treating.

Yes, in many cases, HBOT can be used in conjunction with other medical treatments. It's important to communicate with your medical doctor about all the treatments you are undergoing to ensure they work together safely and effectively.

The timeline for results varies depending on the condition being treated and the individual factors. You may experience improvements after the first session, after just a few sessions, or you might require more time. Your attendant will monitor your progress and adjust the treatment plan if needed.

No, the high oxygen environment in the chamber can be a fire hazard, so the use of electronic devices that generate sparks or heat is prohibited. It's essential to follow the safety guidelines provided by the treatment facility. We suggest conversing with others in the chamber or bringing along a book or magazine.

Normobaric oxygen treatments involve administering oxygen at normal atmospheric pressure. This is in contrast to hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), which involves delivering oxygen at pressures higher than normal atmospheric pressure. The choice between normobaric and hyperbaric oxygen therapy depends on the specific medical condition and the desired therapeutic outcome.

Customer Reviews

I was diagnosed with late-stage Lyme Disease and had 20 sessions of HBOT to supplement my other treatments for chronic pain. Out of all the treatments I had done, HBOT helped my condition the most and was the most effective. I would recommend it to anyone.

K. Haws

I am happy with the result from the few HBO treatments after my cosmetic procedure. The inflammation, the soreness and bruising of the wound on my cheeks subsided. It was a relief that the recovery was quicker than expected.

Y. Wang

HBOT worked wonderfully in my radiotherapy treatment recovery and profoundly improved my quality of sleep. There is a huge difference in my skin and energy level. My friends and family noticed the anti-aging benefits as well. I continue to go twice a week and have incorporated it into my overall wellness regime.

L. Jones

The third head concussion from sports injury was painful. I had headaches from everyday activities such as cooking, walking and even talking with friends. But after about 6 treatments, the frequency of headaches decreased. With some more treatments, I will fully recover and resume my daily routine including sports activities.

M. Folkeringa

My son, Russell, aged 8, has autism. After receiving 40 treatments, he is happier and is more open to changes. There is also moderate improvement in his sleep quality, focus and attention. He has become more connected because of his improved speech ability.

Russell's Mom

I experienced a series of strokes which resulted in acute double vision and paralysis of the left side of my body. After receiving HBO treatments at IHHC, I was able to function better and perform my daily activities. I highly recommend HBOT and IHHC to everyone.

A month after recovering from COVID, I was left with some enduring effects – shortness of breath, brain fog and fatigue. This alternative therapy significantly improved my conditions after several treatments. Thank you IHHC.

M. Lai

I am a Stage 4 prostate cancer patient and had an alarming PSA level of 2600. After receiving 40 treatments of HBO, 5 sessions of radiation and some hormone therapy in a period of 5 month, I am happy that my PSA level is down to 0.01 (the normal is <5) and has been consistent. My condition is well managed and under control. Besides, the morning cough is gone, my energy level and appetite have significantly improved. HBOT is amazing!

A. Yip

HBOT cured my acute headache. I noticed that it has also effectively shrunk my facial pores. While undergoing a treatment in the multi-place chamber, I was quite relaxed and was talking to other clients. The accompanying chamber attendant set us up and took care of us. It was a pleasant experience and is highly recommended to everyone for headache and health maintenance.

V. Cheung

I work 8 hours daily in a clinic and must wear a mask all day during COVID time. This makes breathing difficult and the office environment is stressful! HBOT and the breathing exercises help to reduce my anxiety. I feel healthier because my oxygen level improves after each session.”

Z. Leung

My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Prior to the surgery, she received 20 treatments to improve her immune system and energy level. The oncologist was surprised with my mother’ s quick recovery from the surgery. My mother is thankful for the HBO treatments and for the staff at the Center. Thank you.

A. Chan

Each of my sons finished a course of 40 treatments for ADHD. Oli has experienced less social anxiety and can express himself more easily. He is also more independent … he wants to shower himself and is more comfortable with the babysitter. As for Lu, he too has been more independent and wants his own room; reads more and with milder sensory issues. In general, they are happier.
